As I said when I gave you that number....that's only us....you definitely don't have to spend that much. It's really all about what you want.....it's like a car the one for 500 Dollars will bring you from A to B the same as a 200.000 Dollar car. So my advice...just do some homework and check what you want and need and then you'll have your numbers....and then you'll see if it works for you. You might be surprised :-) !!
As a fellow off-gridder in N.S., I loved this, especially the bit about Ms. Smith's journey. When her story was published, I had so many messages and phone calls telling me what I was doing was illegal and i had better be careful to keep it a secret. It was frustrating to say the least as we had been working side by side with the building inspector and had a great working relationship.
Hi Tina: When I first began researching off-grid living I began to see all the posts about how it was illegal in Canada, and traced them back to the one CTV story. As a journalist myself I'm never too thrilled to read inaccurate reporting, which seems to happen a lot when the topic is on off-grid living. I hope you were able to get your permits, and so forth resolved. Thanks for reading.
I too had to laugh about the "Ms. Smith" story, because it really is almost the first one they hit you with when you do research!
I think you got some great pointers out and hope people will start to differentiate a bit more.
Yup. It's pretty much a classic. Just about all the online links on "Is living off-grid illegal" lead back to that single story.
Shouldve talked alittle more about the start up cost of being off grid.
If youve got 300k plus to spend, then maybe a person can be off grid.
To expensive to live cheap.
That might be the subject for another post. Thanks for reading.

We got our occupancy permit 5 years ago without incident. Love the off grid life 💖
Glad to hear it was resolved. Yes, we went off-grid back in May of this year. It's pretty awesome.
Nice to see some differentiation!
Thanks, Karen.
